Unusual portrait of an unusal musician - Klaus der Geiger.
Lott Festival 2004 The cult figure of Cologne's street musicians still shows us, that critical amusement is still possible. His texts are nothing for the ears of good citizens and quite nothing for the authority. He opens his mouth desire-fully and hilariously (and barefoot) to important themes of our time, although he sometimes 'burned' himself.... In addition to that the former pupil of Kagel- and Stockhausen works wildly, unorthodox and virtuos on his violin. update: finally a good scan -- Nikon F80 + 80-200mm/2.8, Ilford HP5+ @ 800 ASA, developed in Ilford DD-X Commentsi dig this. i like that his face is out of focus, it added to his percievedly grizzled demeanor... i like that his hands are sharpish, but the eye is really drawn to the tuning knobs and i don't think that adds much. if the hand was more central, i would like it more. Also, the expression shows through the fuzz, and one can tell that this man feels the music in him. yay for you... good job.
-- "Through the development of technology we have made of this world a neighborhood, now through the development of our souls, we must make of it a brotherhood. In a real sense, we must learn to live together as brothers, or we will perish together as fools. Depth of Field works really well here, although I’m curious what his face would have shown.
It is not without irony that what you depict is just means to an end, and also the end of this fiddle (excuse me, Violin). Most certainly, he seems to live music, and for it, too, which shows even though his expression fades in F2.8. Kudos to him for doing what he does. Our society as such lacks witty critics. I see you’re using the Ilford Delta film - you’re in good company with * kentsoul and *petitioner, both of whom you should check out in case you haven’t yet - their work is quite stunning. -- mattness // lightworks thank you!
btw... i don;t think he had a cheap violin... it looked old and good... and as a former pupil of Kagel- and Stockhausen..... i know *kentsoul and *petitioner .... of course -- SKIFAHRER. Oh, by no means had I intended to imply a low quality violin with the jolly term 'fiddle'.
Think of it as a revolution against society The term 'violin', to me, evokes images of orchestras, with everyone being but a tiny wheel in a giant machine, forced to follow exact orders for the greater good. Personally, I find that not to be something to aspire to. 'Fiddle', in opposition to this term of oppression, conveys a free spirit loving music, loving freedom, boundless. I’m rambling, ain’t I? VIVA LA REVOLUTION! -- mattness // lightworks Amazing photo Bernd. Quite fascinating. I think you captured his essence.
Must Hug to you. Hope all is well. -- [paula-rosa.com] |
